Optimal Timing for Ubrelvy: When to Take Your Migraine Medication
A short guide to the treatment window, second doses, and what to do when an attack wakes you.
How soon should I take it?
At the first sign of head pain. Early treatment is consistently associated with better outcomes than treating an established attack.
What if the attack wakes me at 3am?
Take it then. There is no requirement to wait for morning, and the drug can be taken with or without food.
Can I take a second dose?
Yes — at least two hours after the first, up to 200 mg total in 24 hours.
What if I get an aura first?
The evidence for dosing during aura, before head pain begins, is limited. Current guidance is to treat when head pain starts.
Does food slow it down?
A high-fat meal delays absorption somewhat. It does not stop the drug working, and it is not a reason to delay a dose.
How often is too often?
More than roughly 10 treatment days a month is the threshold where medication-overuse headache becomes a real risk, and the signal that prevention should be discussed.
