When to Take Ubrelvy for Best Results: Timing Your Migraine Treatment

Ubrelvy is most effective when taken during the mild pain phase of migraine

Ubrelvy (ubrogepant) is an oral CGRP receptor antagonist approved for the acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults. Clinical studies demonstrate that Ubrelvy can be effective when taken at various stages of a migraine attack, though timing may influence treatment outcomes.

In clinical trials, Ubrelvy showed efficacy when taken during the mild pain phase of migraine, with many patients experiencing pain relief within two hours of dosing. The medication works by blocking CGRP receptors, which play a key role in migraine pathophysiology. Taking Ubrelvy early in the migraine process, when pain is still mild, may help prevent progression to more severe symptoms.

Patients should take Ubrelvy as soon as they recognize the onset of a migraine attack, ideally when pain is mild. The recommended dose is 50 mg or 100 mg taken orally, and a second dose may be taken at least 2 hours after the initial dose if needed, with a maximum of 200 mg in a 24-hour period.

While early treatment is generally recommended for acute migraine medications, individual response may vary. Patients should work with their healthcare provider to develop an optimal treatment strategy that considers their specific migraine pattern and response to therapy.
